The portrait of the artist

Screen Shot 2016-01-24 at 9.07.52 AM

The portrait of the artist holding
her head in her hands in perpetual confusion.
No, the portrait of the artist standing up straight
with hands on her hips, Super woman power posing.
No, the portrait of the artist profusely
apologizing to her ex-lover
for giving him a false direction.
The portrait of the artist pleasing others
as she’s never been pleased by others. No,
the portrait of the artist painted by
her own hands as the mouth that screamed
into the whirl of the night, dramatically.
The portrait of the artist as delirious happiness
after her workout at the aesthetically pleasing
gleaming new gym.The portrait of the artist
sitting on the bed arms across her chest,
anxiety rising up from her gut,
filling the river of veins and arteries
all the way to the tip of her hair, which fall off the follicles
like the river’s drift wood. No, the portrait
of the artist  ten years from now
as the color of an empty fruit bowl.
